A Rolex Affair

Owning a Rolex is like living in Bukit Timah & drives Benz. Sure you can also live in the East Coast or drive BMW. Equally good. I ain't a Snob or concern of Status Symbol. I merely enjoy this 1905 creation by two Englishmen. 

According to reliable source, Italian giant Panerai used Rolex know-how when she moved into the commercial market! In my opinion, many Panerai watches looked like Over-Size Rolexes! In the resale market, Rolex commands the Best Value! Locally many 2nd hand shops trade in Rolex only! And in the Fake Watch circle, Rolex is widely Copied!   

My first Rolex was her Classic 70s Manual, OysterDate Precision. It's simple with Black Dial & 14k Gold Markers. 30mm. & the cheapest in the 2nd hand shop. haha. (nothing wrong with Used right?). Although the dealer gave it a new black calf leather strap, I felt it deserved better respect. Maroon was the colour i desired. So Rolex watch with Cartier Croc Skin strap! Awesome!

Two years later i'd this urge to upgrade my virgin Rolex. Rome isn't built in a day. Can't afford Gold, White Gold, Platinum, Diamond or Sports Models. Don't like 1/2 gold type, very common. A friend's friend who's in insurance trade, has no less than 10 Rolex watches!

After looking around for some time, also checked my wallet, i traded in for an Oyster Perpetual DateJust, early 1972-3, White Gold Bezel, Automatic, Rolex Buckle in new Black Calf Leather Strap, Dark Grey Dial. 36mm. No intention to change the strap colour for they matched well. Both watches originally came in Metal Bracelet & not strap. Too costly to have it in Bracelet. my no. 26.

I wore this to my recent bangkok trip. The Cobra Skin Strap tempted me well. Moreover it's Year of the Snake.   27/6/13, 7.25pm.


By now you might have noticed that I like Old Thing, haha. Well unlike a dear friend, i can accept any watches that come without Box &/or Cert. Shortly after the trade-off, in a Dream (I always dream of many things), a Voice told me to go for a OysterDate Precision! Hah! That's the model I owned earlier! I Respect Dream & will try to Fulfil it. 

This time round, I got my 2nd Rolex, also to Make Dream Come True! A 1969, Silver Dial, Original Stainless Steel Bracelet, OysterDate Precision! What else can I ask for! did u see the Water in the watch? my friend swam with this casual fashion watch in his condo pool! 
according to a Watch Guide, a watch that's marked 10 atm or 100m up is safe for swimming. if your watch has no such indication then Don't ever swim with it. whether it's a casual or hi-end brand, Don't take risk. 
recall a super rich china man murdered his brand new Patek by bringing it to sauna!

Rolex = Mercedes Benz

Rolex is like Benz. A Dream Want! If u drive a Benz 200, your wish is to own a 300 in future. Well an opportunity arises & I upgrade my 2 years old 6694 to a 1601 Men Steel & Gold Oyster Perpetual DateJust! It's from 1973. 40 years old & have a new owner.

What caught my eyes is the Original 18K White Gold Bezel & New Rolex Buckle! It comes with a new leather strap. 36mm. Index Bar Markers. Acrylic Crystal. Grey Dial. Chronometer. (Rolex is the first brand to receive Chronometer certification). What more do I want? 

All serious Watch Collectors should have at least one Rolex in the collection!

The article in Digital Life supplement amazed me about Smart Watches that could alert u on incoming call, email message etc. Connectivity with bluetooth. Compatibility to iphone, ipad, ipod. Many more very hi-tech functions!
Casio G-Shock is famous for multi-functions. Surprise that big names like Sony, Motorola  are in. Apple, Samsung, Google & LG are coming in. Popular ones are Pebble, Cookoo, Martian & Metawatch Strata.
James Bond, Dick Tracy & Knight Rider must be the Inspiration!

Fossil

Watch is a strong point of this American brand founded in 1984. Trendy & Affordable. They also make watches for other Fashion brands. 

Due to my girls's crystal studded stainless steel Fossil watch, I 1st came to notice this brand. Last year was the Dragon Year, & among the many Dragon watches, Fossil was the most striking & affordable. Nice cool Black S.Steel with a large Golden Dragon emblem with Nightproof markers. 

What prompted me to blog about Fossil is recently i was at its 313 Orchard branch looking for a briefcase & her big range of watches caught my eyes. Under her Mechanical Watch range, there's such an Innovation, Automatic & Quartz movements as one! Not found in any other big names. That other race lady staff was friendly & charming but most importantly knowledgeable. 

 

Chanel

J12 is a big seller. now this 2012 Best Ladies' Watch Prize, GPHG, La Montre Premiere, with the fower-like Flying Tourbillon, & Diamonds will surely bring Chanel to the real Watch World. It'll really gives PP's 24-Diamonds a tough challenge. The advantage is this's of Mechanical Movement whereas 24-D is Quartz. A watch for the Woman who knows Brand & Watch!
